Flat Foot

Definition

      A flat foot or collapsed arch is medically called "Pes Planus". It is a foot condition where the foot loses its supporting arch. Collapsed arches happen when tendons do not function normally.

 

Symptoms​

  • Pain in the arch

  • Weak, stiff or numb foot

  • Foot gets flatter

Causes

  • Stretched or torn tendons

  • Damage or inflammation of the Posterior Tibial Tendon

  • Health Conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida or Muscular Dystrophy

  • Hereditary, foot flexibility and shape is passed from parents

Contributing Factors

  • Obesity

  • Aging

  • Diabetes

  • Pregnancy
